Frequently Asked Questions

I answer a lot of questions about our blankets, and so here's some information to let you know more about how Blankets for Deployed Daddies works.

How do servicemen get a blanket?

Just fill out our request form, and you will be contacted by our coordinator to send a blanket.

Can I read some responses from service families?

Certainly. Our families speak back here.

Are the blankets knitted by volunteers ever sold? Do soldiers have to buy a blanket?

Blankets for our soldiers are always free of charge! We do not charge for any part of the Blankets for Deployed Daddies program. All of the blankets created by volunteers are sent to families who have a deployed daddy somewhere in the world.

Do you accept blankets from any other patterns?

At this time, we are accepting blankets from the hugs and kisses pattern only. We did a lot of research into the blankets and consulted with physicians, parents, and birth professionals and determined that this design was the best at retaining the scent. Since these daddies are often deployed for more than a year, we want to maximize the amount of time the scent remains on the blankets. The cable and eyelet design is really the best at doing this. I would highly encourage you to check out Operation Top Knot for other blanket needs. They will accept blankets made in any shape, size, or pattern. Their website is www.operationtopknot.com

I want to knit a blanket and send it directly to a soldier. How do I get their address?

Blankets for Deployed Daddies does not reveal the addresses of soldiers or their families to our knitters. All the addresses are kept confidential in the program office for the safety and security of our troops and their families. If you know of a soldier personally that you'd like to send a blanket to, you may request one be sent to you to forward.

How many blankets do you expect volunteers to make?

Any help is appreciated. There is no minimum number of blankets to knit or a timeline for doing it. All blankets are welcomed no matter when they arrive. You are welcome to knit one blanket and move on to another project. You may also knit for our program regularly. It's up to you.

My group would like to knit these blankets. How do we get started?
